All About Alice

Alice & Her Wonderland Cake 2

Hello, I’m Alice.

And this is my Bakery.

I spend most of my time in east London, piping, whipping or peering into an oven on a mission to create beautiful macarons, cakes and other mindblowing miniature marvels.

I’ve always been into baking, ever since I can remember. In fact, one of my earliest memories is age four, gleeful in the realisation that bread dough can not only be plaited and poked to your heart’s content, but can also be stretched into the shape of a pair of knickers. Winner. Ever since then I’ve been obsessing over pastries, cupcakes and cookies.

A few years ago, my sister Ellie bought me the Ladurée Sucré cookbook, and my life hasn’t been the same since. I’m pretty sure that discovering Ladurée has an epiphany-type effect on a lot of people, but for me, it was a call to baking arms. There were more than a few tears and tantrums over cracked shells and wonky feet, and my boyfriend definitely gained a few pounds, but eventually something clicked and I have been merrily* piping away since.

It was the same sister who signed me up for my first market stall in Tufnell Park and my other sister, Harriet (the arty one), who created the beautiful logo and designs. Et voilà, Alice’s Bakery was born. At the time, I was working in financial services HR, hiring and firing by day (let’s be honest, mainly firing) and baking into the early hours, dreaming of turning Alice’s Bakery from a late night operator into a full-time enterprise.

My moonlighting days are now over – I decided to pack in the full-time day job so I can bake for a living too. Having spent 18 months selling my wares to the beautiful crowds at Broadway Market in Hackney, and building up a (sometimes addicted) customer base, I’m now focussing solely on private events and bespoke orders. Like these oh-so-French macarons we made for the Vestaire Collective, adored by Vogue. And these GBBO specials, featured on ‘An Extra Slice’.

If you like macarons (and who doesn’t?), are looking for something baked and beautiful for a special occasion, or just fancy a treat, check out my gallery and get in touch.

Knicker-shaped bread rolls are currently in the development stage.

*still featuring the odd baking-related tantrum.

  1. All of your pictures and recipes look fantastic!!!! I am secretly happy that your measurements are in grams, because otherwise I would be running to the kitchen to try and eat a bunch of your recipes!!!
